Child and Family Centred Care (CAFCC) Project Reference Group
The Consumer Engagement team is leading a project to improve the consistency of Child and Family Centred Care (CAFCC) across CAHS through organisational culture change. Consumer experience feedback data (e.g. complaints, contacts and survey data) shows that practice varies across services.
There is demonstrated evidence for the positive impacts CAFCC has on short and long term health outcomes, consumer experience, staff experiences and reduced costs for delivering care. We want to further develop our capabilities as a child and family centred organisation so their consumers can hold high expectations for how clinical staff across the service will partner with them in their care, even when the care delivered differs.
We have a unique opportunity to develop skills and expectations for partnering in care within children and young people, and their parents, families and carers to establish lifelong positive habits, attitudes, behaviours and relationships with their healthcare provider that will impact their future interactions with services and improve their health outcomes across their lifespan.
This project aims to:
- Collaboratively engage staff and consumers in defining CAFCC practice at CAHS.
- Build awareness of staff and consumers of expectations for collaborative care partnerships, informed consent and healthcare rights through project engagement activities and communications.
- Create improved clarity and direction of what is expected of staff through governance, policy and process which will impact their behaviours and practice of child and family centred care.
- Develop the knowledge and skills of the workforce to implement CAFCC through training, development activities and access to information.
- Build the capacity of consumers through health promotion, education and health literacy initiatives.
