School-aged Health Review
In 2018, we carried out a review of the health services we provide to school-aged children. We looked at the available research, best practice models, data about current school health services in WA, and how other states and countries deliver school health services.
The review had input from the Department of Education, and a range of stakeholders provided feedback, including parents and carers of children and young people aged 3 to 18, community health staff, school principals and community agencies.

Key findings and recommendations
The review, published in 2019, included recommendations to improve school-aged health services in WA, including how and when we offer services, the role of nurses working with school-age children and young people, and how we support our staff.

Based on these recommendations, we began changing our policies and practices in 2020. We work closely with the Department of Education to continue improving our services to support school aged children.
Community Health Nurses working in schools remain committed to supporting children’s healthy development and wellbeing.
