Grants and funding

The information and resources below are designed to help you secure funding for projects that align with CAHS’ research vision of healthy kids, healthy communities.

Research funding opportunities arise throughout the year.  The calendar below provides a rough time guide to recurrent funding programs.

Note that applications for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation (PCHF) funding can be submitted year-round.

To stay abreast of the latest paediatric research funding opportunities, you can also subscribe to the CAHS funding and events newsletter.

The CAHS research grants officer can assist you to develop your grants submission. You can also take advantage of other online resources including seminar recordings, in particular Grants applications and finding funding.

Preparing your submission

You will smooth the progress of your application if – before completing your grant paperwork – you:

  • speak to your Head of Department to ensure they support your proposal. This is especially important if your proposal will involve use of your paid time or any departmental resources
  • meet with the CAHS Research Coordinator if you require letters of support or any other support to meet application, policy, or funder requirements
  • draft your application form and budget – complete the CAHS FTE costing calculator (internal link accessible to WA Health employees only – scroll down to ‘Finance tools’ then click on ‘FTE calculator’)
  • seek support from the CAHS Business Support Unit as needed
  • complete the CAHS Grants Coversheet and attach the funder application form.

For all grant submission opportunities

Any grant application that involves CAHS staff time or resources (including data) must obtain CAHS sign off. This includes applications that will be submitted by an external collaborator or that are not CAHS-led.

If you plan to undertake research, speak to us as early as possible. We can help you identify funding opportunities, provide advice on application preparation and ensure your application progresses smoothly.

To secure CAHS sign-off, you will need to:

Submitting your final documents

Submit your final application documents to CAHS Research Grants officer who will co-ordinate approvals and signatures prior to submission to the funder.

Ensuring we receive your application documents at least 3 weeks before your funder’s grant deadline allows us time to obtain:

  • Head of Department approval – 7 working days
  • CAHS Executive – 7 working days
  • CAHS Finance – 4 working days
  • Research Manager or Director of Research – 4 working days.

In most cases, we will complete the final check of your documents and submit your application on your behalf. If you intend to submit your application yourself, you must get our approval first and provide us with your final application documents.
