Mini mindful garden
Mindfulness involves paying close attention to your thoughts and feelings in the present moment. In a busy day or week, it can be beneficial to pause, take a few deep breaths, and slow your mind to focus on one thing at a time.
One effective way to practice this is by creating a mini mindful garden. Inspired by Japanese Zen Gardens, making one is a simple and fun way to enhance your mindfulness. You can concentrate on the patterns in the sand, enjoy the scent of an essential oil, or engage in the calming process of raking designs.
What you will need:
- A tray: Can be a shallow container, shoebox lid, or a plastic plate. Just make sure it doesn’t have any holes.
- Sand: Can be bought, coloured craft sand or just clean sand from the beach. You can even add oil scents for additional calming scent.
- Mini rakes: Can be a plastic fork, mini backscratcher, comb or even an old toothbrush. You can have a variety of rakes to be able to make different patterns.
- Small items: Can be shells, rocks, beads, crystals, miniature toys or anything that is meaningful to you.
Instructions:
- Set up your tray, sand, mini rakes and small items so they are all in easy to reach while you create your garden.
- Slowly pour in your chosen sand and smooth flat.
- Time to use your rakes!
- Choose your mindful garden accessories and carefully place them in the sand.
- Your mini mindful garden is finished!
