Aboriginal Health Team Model of Care Artwork

About the artwork

Model of Care artwork labelled Centre of Model of Care artwork

This Model of Care artwork shows how culturally-safe and holistic healthcare is central to all Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) activities. It is embedded across the service to support the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children, and promote strong and healthy families.

  • The stethoscope shows the connection between Aboriginal culture to all 4 CAHS service departments – Perth Children’s Hospital, Child and Adolescent Community Health (CACH), Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Neonatology.
  • The middle of the stethoscope shows CACH including the Aboriginal Health Team, and depicts the Model of Care and connection between CACH and all CAHS services.
  • Outside the stethoscope are the connections to external service providers such as school, housing, Foodbank, Child Protection, Centrelink.

The glitter dots throughout the artwork symbolises the holistic, culturally-appropriate and family-centred care that is delivered by multidisciplinary teams across the organisation.

This artwork acknowledges the many journeys that Aboriginal children and their families travel:

  • The end of the stethoscope is where the heart beats, and connects all children, parents and families. It symbolises that everything starts before conception, and that mental health, and social emotional and wellbeing of the whole family is very important.
  • Above the end of the stethoscope shows the cultural connection to spirituality, country, land, sea, men’s and women’s business, cultural protocols, practices, and lore. It also symbolises the acknowledgement and recognition of the impacts of colonisation, interpersonal and institutional racism, and trauma.
The middle of the stethoscope shows the Model of Care and services delivered by the CACH Aboriginal Health Team.
  • The centre piece shows a picture of family (Aboriginal man, woman, child and newborn baby) circled in red. The red symbolises the focus of care for all CAHS services.
  • Around this circle are meeting places that also represent the child health contacts. The CAHS values that are always considered and implemented when delivering services are depicted (dark green, orange, purple, red, dark blue and light green).
