Navdeep
Navdeep is a nurse educator in CAHS Community Health's Aboriginal Health team.
Why did you choose a career in nursing?
Personally nursing has always been the right choice as a career for me. Nursing as a profession is very rewarding and gives me inner contentment. It allows me to make a change in someone's life through healing and reassurance. As a community health nurse, I can promote positive health - I enjoy working with people and I think the best way to keep people healthy is education and preventive care.
I work with the Aboriginal community as child health nurse for the Aboriginal Health team, and I do feel like a valuable member of the community. Learning about different cultures has broadened my experiences.
Tell us about how you got this role
I am passionate about working with children and families.
I completed my Masters in Child Health nursing in 2012 and have been more involved in research and teaching projects since then. I worked for Queensland Health for three years, then moved to Perth in 2018 when I started working at PCH. Prior to this, I was a registered nurse in India and worked at different roles like nurse manager, educator, maternal and child health nurse and lecturer for university.
What are the best bits about working here?
I love the team work and my team.
The best bit of working as a CAHS employee is that we uphold our values of respect, collaboration, compassion, accountability, excellence and equity. We celebrate life and we value our patients and clients. I like how everyone with kind gestures and words, boost each other. Being passionate about research, I also like how CAHS understands the importance of research and regularly organise some projects for better evidence based care.
