International Day of the Midwife 2020
On the International Day of the Midwife 2020, CAHS formally welcomes midwives to our service following the transition of Neonatology to CAHS.
Meet Liz Downing
Liz is one of our registered CAHS midwives. With over 30 years of nursing experience, she has worked in Neonatal services both interstate and locally in Perth.
Tell us about your background and how you became a midwife
I started as a student nurse at St John of God Hospital in 1981.
In 1991, I started working at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children as a neonatal trained nurse.
Working at PMH was a highlight of my career as I have since made life-long friends!
What do you love the most about your job?
I get great job satisfaction in helping mothers through really tough times.
The post-natal period can be rather stressful so being able to support Mum, baby and the whole family is a really rewarding aspect of what I get to do.
