    Our staff helping to further medical research via newly formed committee 25 October 2024 Congratulations and thank you to Professor Asha Bowen, Professor Britta Regli-von Ungern-Sternberg, and Professor Fiona Wood, who are all looking to cement WA as a global leader in health and medical research. Professor Asha Bowen and Professor Britta Regli-von Ungern-Sternberg have recently been appointed as members of the Western Australian Government’s new expert committee, which will provide strategic advice on future pathways and priorities in the field of medical research. Additionally, the committee will be bolstered by the membership of Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Advisory Council member, Professor Fiona Wood, who will aid collaboration between the fund and the committee.     Young people making a difference 04 October 2024 Our Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is on a mission to empower young patients, clients, and their families to have an active role in their healthcare journeys. And they are certainly hitting the mark – taking out the Y WA Collective Action Award category in this year’s WA Youth Awards. With a record 155 nominations across all categories, securing a win was an outstanding achievement. Through partnership and collaboration, the YAG help to provide young people a platform to voice their opinions, suggestions, and concerns in the establishment of policies, programs and services across CAHS, with a particular focus on both Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) and Child and Adolescent Community Health.     Stan Perron Charitable Foundation’s commitment to helping kids with cancer 19 August 2024 On Saturday 17 August 2024, Minister for Health, the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, announced a donation by the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation of $135.5 million over the next decade to a multi-partner collaboration to support Western Australian children and young people with cancer. Across Australia, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for children. The generous philanthropic donation, one of the largest in WA’s history, will not just change the lives of children currently living with cancer, but will also help to advance cancer research and treatment into the future building upon the significant work already being undertaken by Perth Children’s Hospital and Telethon Kids Institute.     Inaugural Nursing Research Fellowships supported by Telethon 14 August 2024 Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) and Telethon are thrilled to announce the inaugural candidate of the Nursing Research Fellowship (NRF) Program. Thanks to funding from Telethon, three Nursing Research Fellowships will be awarded over a three-year period, providing CAHS recipients with a dedicated opportunity to begin to build their research capability and expertise under the guidance of clinical and academic supervisors. The inaugural recipient, Perth Children’s Hospital Research Nurse Coordinator, Arielle Jolly, commenced her project, ‘FOOTPRINTS: Follow-on Outreach – Psychosocial Support After the Unexpected Death of a Child in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)’ in July 2024.
