Dr Noula Gibson named a finalist in 2023 Health and Medical Research Awards
Congratulations to Dr Noula Gibson, senior physiotherapist and research co-ordinator in the Physiotherapy Department at Perth Children’s Hospital, on being named a finalist in Research Australia’s 2023 Health and Medical Research Awards.
Noula’s internationally renowned contributions to cerebral palsy research have led to contention for the Health Services Award.
She has been instrumental in improving the management and quality of life of children with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions through contributions that have included the development of international clinical guidelines and protocols, novel mobility interventions, and intervention-delivery platforms.
Noula, who is also an Honorary Research Associate with the Child Disability research team at Telethon Kids Institute and an adjunct research fellow for the Curtin School of Allied Health at Curtin University, said that while she was surprised to learn of her nomination, she was even more surprised to discover she was a finalist.
Noula said the kudos needed to be shared with the ‘wonderful clinicians and researchers’ with whom she had worked.
"I wouldn’t have become a finalist had I not had the opportunity to work with – and be mentored by – some very accomplished and wonderful peers," she said.
"This is really an acknowledgement of these wonderful teams."
The annual Health and Medical Research Awards recognise outstanding efforts and achievements of individuals and teams who have driven and supported health and medical innovation in Australia.
